Antonia Sanda Takes on Communications Leadership Role at Anthropic in ANZ

Anthropic has appointed Antonia Sanda to lead its communications function across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), adding an experienced technology communications executive as the company continues to expand its presence in the region.

Sanda Joins Anthropic From Deel

Sanda joins Anthropic after more than four years leading APAC communications at Deel, the global workforce management company. Prior to Deel, she spent nearly a decade at Meta, where she served as Head of Communications for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

Her career spans more than 20 years in technology communications, covering corporate reputation, issues management and communications for rapidly scaling technology businesses.

Early Experience at Anthropic

Following her appointment, Sanda shared an update on LinkedIn about her initial experience at Anthropic, including a recent trip to the company’s US headquarters in San Francisco for an induction.

Reflecting on her first days with the company, she noted that there was a significant amount to learn and highlighted the thoughtful approach of employees and their willingness to ask difficult questions.

The comments offer an early indication of Sanda’s focus as she begins her communications leadership role in the ANZ market.

Extensive Experience at Meta

Sanda spent nearly a decade at Meta, then known as Facebook, from 2013 to 2022. During that period, she worked through significant changes at both the company and the broader social media industry.

Her responsibilities included communications around several high-profile issues in Australia and New Zealand, including the Christchurch mosque shootings livestream in 2019 and Meta’s response to the News Media Bargaining Code in 2021.

The experience gave Sanda exposure to complex corporate, regulatory and reputational issues within a rapidly changing technology environment.

Communications Experience Across Fast-Growing Technology Companies

At Deel, Sanda led communications across the APAC region as the company expanded its global workforce management business. The role added experience in communicating for a rapidly growing technology company operating across international markets.

Her career has therefore covered both established technology platforms and high-growth businesses, with a focus on communications strategy, reputation and navigating complex issues.

Anthropic Expands Its ANZ Presence

Sanda’s appointment comes as Anthropic continues to build its operations across Australia and New Zealand. The company opened its Sydney office in April and subsequently appointed Theo Hourmouzis as General Manager for Australia and New Zealand.

The expansion reflects the company’s growing focus on the ANZ market and the need to develop its regional leadership and communications capabilities.

Sanda describes herself as having spent more than 20 years telling stories about technology. In her LinkedIn profile, she highlights her experience working as a communications partner to technology companies and leaders while navigating both the transformative potential and challenges associated with technology.
