Dabur Red’s Republic Day film celebrates instinctive courage in ‘Desh Ke Bacche, Desh Ke Sachche Laal’

This Republic Day, Dabur Red Toothpaste presents a film that looks beyond symbolic patriotism to honour courage in its most instinctive and human form — moments when ordinary individuals act with extraordinary selflessness.

Titled ‘Desh Ke Bacche, Desh Ke Sachche Laal’, the film brings together real stories of children who have received the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (President’s Bravery Award) for saving lives in moments of sudden crisis.

One story follows a young girl who noticed smoke rising from a building. Acting without hesitation, she rushed inside to find a gas cylinder on fire and doused it with water, preventing a potential tragedy. Another captures a boy walking past a pond who saw children drowning. Without pausing to think about his own safety, he jumped in and swam to rescue them.

What gives the film its emotional authenticity is the children’s own narration. They do not see themselves as heroes.

“We don’t know how to be brave,” one child says. “In that moment, we only felt someone needed urgent help.”

Another adds, “Your eyes are fixed only on the person who needs to be saved.”

For them, bravery wasn’t planned — it was instinctive. “Even I didn’t know I was brave,” one child reflects. “That one moment changed my life.” None of them imagined that these acts would one day be recognised with a national honour.

The film closes by acknowledging that every year, many children across India step into danger to save others without fear or expectation. These spontaneous acts of courage — driven by values rather than training — are what the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar seeks to recognise.
