Zee Elevates Annkur Kapila to EVP – Sports Strategy & Business Development

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has elevated Annkur Kapila to the role of Executive Vice President – Sports Strategy & Business Development, giving him a new mandate focused on strengthening the company’s sports business and identifying new growth opportunities.

Kapila moves into the position after serving as EVP – National Head Sales for ZEE5, where he led the streaming platform’s national sales mandate and worked closely with internal teams and partners to drive commercial growth.

New Mandate Across Sports Strategy

In his new role, Kapila will focus on shaping Zee’s broader sports strategy, rights acquisition and business development initiatives.

His responsibilities will include identifying strategic opportunities, developing partnerships and exploring new avenues for growth across Zee’s sports ecosystem.

The expanded mandate will see Kapila contribute to the company’s efforts to strengthen its sports proposition across Unite8 Sports and ZEE5.

Moves from ZEE5 Sales Leadership

Prior to taking on the new responsibility, Kapila served as EVP – National Head Sales at ZEE5.

In the role, he was responsible for leading the platform’s national sales function and collaborating with teams and business partners to support revenue and commercial growth.

His transition from national sales leadership to sports strategy and business development broadens his responsibilities within ZEEL and places him at the centre of the company’s sports growth initiatives.

Focus on Rights Acquisition and Partnerships

A key component of Kapila’s new mandate will be sports rights acquisition, alongside identifying partnerships that can support Zee’s ambitions in the sports media business.

He will also focus on evaluating strategic opportunities capable of strengthening the company’s sports portfolio and unlocking new commercial possibilities across linear and digital platforms.
